Long Story Short
A lot of people out there still really enjoy Adam Sandler films, apparently.
Long Story
There were plenty of interesting stats in Netflix’s Q1 earnings report. Revenue from the international segment grew 62% year-on-year; Dave Chappelle: Collection 1 was Netflix’s most viewed comedy special ever; and the video-on-demand service is forecasting a whopping $1 billion will be spent on marketing to new members over the coming year.
But as The Verge initially reported, perhaps the most surprising figure came in the ‘Content’ section of the report, and concerned Adam Sandler and his Netflix film The Ridiculous 6 (for context, The Ridiculous 6 currently sits at a whopping 18% on Metacritic). “Since the launch of The Ridiculous 6, Netflix members have spent more than half a billion hours enjoying the films of Adam Sandler,” the report beamed.

Half a billion hours. That is not a typo. If Netflix is closing in on 100 million subscribers, each one of them has spent on average five hours in the past year watching Adam Sandler films. Remarkable.
So remarkable, in fact, that Netflix has already locked in Sandler for four more films on top of the three already on the service. And they’re making their Cannes debut this year with an Adam Sandler film — The Meyerowitz Stories.
So it doesn’t look like Netflix is going to stop throwing money at Sandler any time soon. And that’s despite his new film for the service, Sandy Wexler, scoring just 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. Sheesh.
Apparently not
Netflix clearly loves Adam Sandler. And it seems their subscribers do too. Who knew.
