Singer Gifts 7-Year-Old Son One Last Gift To Remember Her – A Final Song
Washington D.C. singer Cat Janice, 31, was diagnosed with a rare malignant tumor called sarcoma in 2021. Janice has endured a grueling battle with cancer ever since, which she has documented on social media. On January 15th, the singer announced that her cancer had progressed aggressively and she was now in hospice care, unable to use her singing voice.
Despite this worrisome news, Janice released “Dance You Outta My Head,” a disco-pop song, on January 19th. The song charted at #7 on the iTunes charts worldwide just days later and garnered half a million streams on Spotify.
On Instagram, Janice wrote that she was “absolutely floored” by the warm reception to her song. She wrote: “I woke up to my medicine pump beeping and happened to check my phone to witness this absolute miracle of God that has saved my life for a few days to show me His power as well as the unbelievable masterful peace and trust in my life.”
Five days later, Janice said in a TikTok caption that she wanted her “final song” to bring joy and levity, adding that it was all she wanted in her cancer battle.
“My final joy would be if you save ‘Dance You Outta My Head’ to my bio and stream it online because all proceeds made will go straight to the seven year old boy I’m leaving behind,” Janice also said in a TikTok post.
In an interview with People, Janice said the idea for “Dance You Outta My Head” came to her last spring, when she and Loren were “tooling around in the car” and enjoying the warm weather.
“It’s such a mess for every age, when you’re feeling something stirring inside,” one of her hit song’s lyrics goes. “Dancing on the brink of disaster makes my heartbeat faster.”
In a video she posted on social media, a teary-eyed Janice is seen presenting Loren with an oversized check as she explains that this money can help him get through school and allow him to pursue his dreams.
“This is your gift from me,” Janice told Loren in the video. “I won’t be here to see you grow up, so I’m giving you this now to help you in life.”
Loren, dressed in a suit and tie, hugged his mother tightly as she wished him well. “Be sweet, be kind, work hard and chase your dreams,” Janice told him. “I’ll always be with you.”
Janice explained to reporters that she wanted to leave Loren with “more than just memories.” She said the song’s profits ensure he will be taken care of financially and have opportunities she never had growing up. Janice was raised by a single mother in poverty.
Her song “Dance You Outta My Head” has now topped charts worldwide, been certified platinum, and has over 10 million streams. While Janice is too ill to publicly perform it, she said she sings it to Loren every night before bed.
“This song represents my final gift to him before I’m gone,” she told People magazine in an interview. “It’s the last way I can be a mother to him. My career was cut short, but I was able to create this hit that will live on after me and help my son.”
Janice’s story has captivated people around the world. Many have been inspired by her selfless act of using her final days to create something to help her child. Her song has become an anthem for living life to the fullest and cherishing every moment.
While her time left is short, Janice said she is at peace knowing her son will be cared for thanks to her gift of song. “That’s all any parent could ask for,” she said. “To leave their child with joy.”
